Why It Matters

Why Dryer Vent & Ventilation Problems Start Where You Cannot See Them

The lint trap catches maybe two thirds of what comes off your clothes. The rest travels into the vent and settles along the duct run, packing tighter with every load. A dryer pushes hot air into that duct on every cycle, which is why failure to clean dryer vents is the leading cause of home dryer fires according to the NFPA.

Chicagoland makes it worse. Heating season runs long here, nobody is drying anything outside from October through April, and dryer runtime climbs accordingly. Longer runtime means more lint, and a vent that would have coped fine in a milder climate ends up restricted by spring. That is before you account for the birds that find a warm dryer vent an excellent place to nest.

Do You Need A Cleaning?

Nine Signs Your Dryer Vent Is Blocked

The first few are inconvenience. The last few mean stop using the dryer and call someone.

Dryer Vent & Ventilation

Every Dryer Vent & Ventilation Service We Offer

Dryer vents, furnace flues and attic ventilation are the same job in different pipes: getting exhaust and moisture out of the building safely. We handle all of it, and we test airflow before and after rather than telling you it feels better.

Professional dryer vent cleaning in progress - lint blockage removal and airflow restoration in Chicago suburbs

Full duct run cleaned from the dryer connection to the exterior hood using rotary brushes and vacuum extraction. Not just the first three feet you can reach from behind the machine, which is where most of the lint is not.

Dryer vent duct rerouted between floor joists in an unfinished basement, running past PVC piping and a furnace filter.

Crushed transition ducts, foil flex that has sagged into traps, runs that are too long or have too many bends, and vents terminating somewhere they should not. Cleaning a badly built vent only buys you a few months.

Dryer vent blockage and fire hazard restriction cleared - professional dryer vent cleaning in Chicagoland

Bird nests, rodent nests, collapsed duct sections and lint packed hard enough to stop airflow completely. If the dryer is running hot or you have smelled burning, this is not a job to leave until next month.

HOA multi-unit dryer vent cleaning - blockage and fire hazard restriction removed in Chicago area apartment complex

Shared vent stacks and long horizontal runs make multi-unit buildings the highest-risk dryer vent environment there is. One neglected unit affects the whole stack. We run scheduled programs with documentation for the board.

Furnace flue chimney cleaning to prevent carbon monoxide buildup - CSIA-certified inspection in Chicagoland

The most overlooked flue in Chicagoland homes. Nobody thinks about the furnace vent because nothing visibly comes out of it, but a restricted heating flue pushes combustion gases back into the basement rather than up the chimney.

Insulated flexible HVAC ductwork running across attic ceiling joists with an insulation depth ruler installed before blown-in insulation.

A poorly ventilated attic traps warm moist air against the roof deck, which causes ice dams in winter and rots sheathing year-round. It also affects how the chimney drafts, which is why we look at it rather than treating it as somebody else’s problem.

Blocked furnace flue creating carbon monoxide risk - flue cleaning and safety inspection in Chicago, IL

Carbon monoxide problems are almost always venting problems. A blocked flue, a liner that has failed, or negative pressure pulling exhaust back into the house. We test the appliances, check the flues, and find where it is coming from.

Not sure which service you need? Give us a call at (630) 280-8285 or submit the form with the closest match and a short note. A description like ‘clothes take two cycles to dry’ or ‘burning smell when the dryer runs’ tells us more than a service name does.

What to expect

How Every Dryer Vent & Ventilation Job Works

Whether it is a routine dryer vent cleaning, a blockage that has stopped airflow completely, or a carbon monoxide assessment across the whole house, the visit runs the same way. Most residential jobs are done in 60 to 90 minutes.

1 Step

Book & Confirm

Call us or submit the form. Tell us where the vent exits if you know, because a roof termination needs different equipment than a side wall. Same-week appointments across Chicagoland, and we can combine it with a chimney sweep on the same visit.

1 Step

2 Step

Inspection & Airflow Test

We check the full duct run, the transition duct behind the machine, and the exterior hood, then measure airflow at the termination. That reading gives us a number to compare against once the work is done, rather than an opinion about whether it feels better.

2 Step

3 Step

Cleaning & Clearing

Rotary brushes run the full length of the duct with vacuum extraction capturing the lint rather than pushing it into the room. Nests, debris and compacted blockages come out. Floors and the area behind the dryer are protected before we start.

3 Step

4 Step

Repairs Where Needed

Crushed transition ducts, sagging foil flex and failed vent hoods get flagged and quoted rather than cleaned around. Cleaning a duct that is physically restricted only buys a few months. Where we can fix it on the day, we do.

4 Step

5 Step

Retest, Cleanup & Documentation

Airflow measured again and compared against the first reading, dryer reconnected and tested, area left clean. You get the before and after figures in writing along with photos of anything we found. HOA and multi-unit jobs get per-unit reporting for the board.

Questions We Hear The Most

Before You Book A Dryer Vent Cleaning

Most Chicago-area homes fall between $150 and $290 for a standard single-family cleaning. Straight short runs sit at the lower end. Roof terminations, multi-storey runs and anything needing bird nest removal cost more because they take longer and need different equipment. We quote before we start, not after.

Once a year for a typical household. More often if you run eight or more loads a week, have a long duct run, or own pets that shed. Chicago's long heating season pushes dryer use higher than milder climates, so annual really is the minimum here rather than a cautious recommendation.

You can clear the first few feet, and it is better than nothing. The problem is that most lint collects further along the run, around bends and near the termination, which consumer kits cannot reach or extract properly. They also tend to push lint deeper rather than pulling it out. If the run is short and straight you will get somewhere. If it goes up through a wall or out the roof, you will not.

Usually because the vent itself is the problem rather than the lint in it. Runs that are too long, have too many bends, or use flexible foil duct that has sagged into low spots will never move air properly no matter how clean they are. That is a rerouting job, and we will tell you when that is what you are looking at.

Yes, and multi-unit buildings need it more than single-family homes do. Shared stacks and long horizontal runs collect far more lint, and one neglected unit affects everyone connected to that stack. We run scheduled building-wide programmes with per-unit documentation the board can file, plus volume pricing.

With a gas dryer, yes. A gas dryer produces combustion gases including carbon monoxide, and a blocked vent means those gases have nowhere to go but back into the laundry room. Electric dryers do not produce CO, but a blocked vent is still a fire risk. Either way it needs clearing.

Yes, and most people should. Same technician, same visit, one trip rather than two. It is also how we end up finding furnace flue problems, because we are already looking at the venting in the basement while we are there.

Sixty to ninety minutes for a standard residential cleaning including the airflow tests. Heavy blockages, nest removal or roof access add time. Multi-unit buildings are scheduled by the block rather than the unit, and we work out the timetable with the property manager in advance.
